Existential
Looming Crisis
With the ever increasing intrusion of technology in our
offices, homes & consequently life, the function of neurons and their role
on humanity is another intriguing chapter which will unravel by end of this
decade, i.e. by end of 2030s…
This invasion has gone so deep that this monster getting
tired of us or you running away from is nothing more than a wishful thinking…
And with each passing day domino effect on human life is going to augment with
the gullible promise of making our life and planet earth a better place to live…
This is happening with such deception that we are falling in kind of a funnel
with no exit option at our liking..
With such complexity around, the most beautiful creation of
God, i.e., Human and the humanity is also has become a victim. Consequently few
key traits like Compassion, Love and Affection, Dedication, Sacrifice,
and charity.. with which humans are brought in this world are eroding
fast. Urbanization and advent of Nuclear family has increased speed of this
erosion fast. With scientific developments happening real fast in field of
space exploration the possibility of interplanetary colonization is not just a
dream but near future reality…
Where all this will lead us and is there any remedy from
this existential crisis? Answer is – Go back to the roots that is nature and
pick up few of the treasures from there... Essentially this will act as a
reflector and make us realize that we are nothing more than just another character
in this large canvas where a big drama is being acted and each piece from that
nature have their vital roles to make things perfect or imperfect as they are
and what they are.. Having a pet in house is sound option to imbibe the missing
human traits, as they be a great companion for a growing up child who is not
fully exposed to the ups and downs of the world. Pets are a silent observer and
contribute to the narrative without carrying any prejudices, as they are emotionally
detached from the scenario and live more often in the moment. The unconditional
love, affection of a pet to the master makes him the part of a family without
the pet asking or demanding for it…

COVID crisis and the extended lock-down has made us think and
do, what we as a family has managed to avert so far in our state of unconscious
denial... So as we had been contemplating ways to make Nandini’s childhood pure,
innocent and free flowing; there came a final push from her, to adopt a pet-
which could be anything among Puppy, Kitten and Rabbit.
After giving sincere considerations to various logistical
issues, it was mutually agreed that rabbit would be an idle guest in our
family.
So than our search commenced in order to find the correct
match. Critical point here was to have rabbit ASAP, as Nandini got so excited
and little apprehensive as well. Reason for apprehension was the fear of us
changing our mind one more time, in guise of any smallest excuse and defer her
much cherished adoption!!
The Search
With the promise of a successful closure this time, I
activated my search to find a suitable prospect. With the belief that an
experienced hand will anyway give sound advice and suitable source of supply I
approached versatile handles:-
Internet / Social Media- The one tool immensely rich
in content and know-how and who is hyperactive is this COVID time seems an
obvious choice.. With that expectation I spend considerable time on YouTube and
joined few “PET ANIMAL ADOPTION” groups in Facebook. While Youtube did provide
me couple of useful parental information, my detour with facebook was not
fruitful; barring those neverending annoying group notifications!
Pet Shops- Visits to 4 nearby pet shops helped us
gather very vital and practical localized knowledge about the handing of pets
and various nuisances attached with pet life. These frequent and repeat visits
were made keeping Nandini in company to ensure that no relevant or irrelevant
thought / doubt remains unasked. And here we bumped into a fact which proved THE
POINT later on in our overall buying journey… That was to buy rabbit in
pair and of minimum 3 weeks young; which essentially was meant to ensure that
family element of our as well as the guest is kept intact.. So from here our
search was more refined on 3 points, which looked like-
- A pair of rabbit Male-Female
- Between age of 3-5 weeks
- Crisp shining milky White in color
Acquaintance Referrals- This tool was used at the
last deliberately. Since we were equipped with enough of the basic information
about of selection and wanted 2 things in this step. One was vetting all the
facts we deemed fit so far, Two was to find reliable place of adoption. One of
family member came to our rescue and recommended “PURANI DILLI” opposite Red
Fort best place to find one.

| Home Coming |
With all the ground work completed, which happened real
quick courtesy to the persistent coaxing by Nandini; on 15th
September Tuesday, 2020 with much fanfare we drove towards the pet Shop in “Purani
Dilli” in late evening.
Before reaching the shop, we have rechecked with shop owner
all our points and post his willingness on the points we started the closure of
this short, exciting and eventful journey.
This is how and what we found there-
Joy and Radiance of Nandini was testimony of this worthwhile
experience. She is elated much beyond than cloud 9. She was quiet stunned and
little perplexed for quite a while as if she was yet to come to the reality
that she is finally a possessor of bundle of “WHITE JOY”. After all,
this time also when she brought the point of pet adoption; she was more than
sure that this will be another futile attempt; though her sales pitch was very
passionate; which sounded like -“Since 10 years I have been requesting you guys
for a pet, but seems you really don’t care about what I want and I’m sure this
time also you will invent another excuse for not owning my request in pretence
of some parentally affection”!!
Anyway we brought home, these tiny toddlers which are
sparking shiny white, little frail as they were in tender age of just 2 weeks,
obviously not well fed and their craving for some homely affection was evident
and reflected in their fervent nodding of head.
Fast
Forward
रीता-राकेश (Reeta- Rakesh) in their 3rd week of stay with us,
are moving our lives beyond credence. Seems the COVID ear jingle Eat-Sleep-Repeat
has been hijacked to the hilt by this bundle of exuberance.
The most prominent change a pet can bring in a child is self- confidence and self-esteem. Another trait that develops, is sense of responsibility in the children who care for pets.
Their Free yet Wild run within our home is an epitome
of effervescent energy they seems to have brought in our lives and we are
venturing into an era of traits which were fast retreating from our lives- Compassion,
Love and Affection, Dedication, Sacrifice, and charity..
