COVID: A Curse on Humanity!

     COVID: Loss of Human Capital

Busy Taipei Subway Station

8 months 6 days prior on Jan 20 2020; China officially admitted about some virus has spread in the mainland China. While this announcement was much delayed and had to be made after realizing that any further delay will tarnish its already shady image.

Good two weeks prior to this admission, neighbouring country Taiwan had already smelled something fishy in the soil of its arch rival China, and taking learning of 2003 outbreak named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) seriously, on December 31 2019, Taiwan Centre for Disease Control (TCDC) implemented inspection measures for inbound flights from Wuhan China in response to reports of an unidentified outbreak with full professional conduct. Result is self-explanatory –

Corona Cases Taiwan Vs Rest Of the World

The fall out of this pandemic is much grimmer than anticipated early both in terms of Human Capital as well as the Financial Capital. The pandemic lethality could have been little muted, had various governments and more explicitly the World Health Organization (WHO) took their job more seriously and honestly. The information from China already came too little too late; and on top of that actions of Govts., Policy makers were very disheartening. This casual approach has made us pay dearly and the final solution for this virus – a reliable Vaccine still far from sight.. Damages still can hit us hard!

Even before COVID struck, global economy was not in best stage in first place so it was destined to remain like that for some good time. But the loss of Human Capital due to this COVID is too many and irrevocable.

As per the recent count there are 46 firms in race to get the first vaccine approved and launched for the mass usage.

Political discourses are doing the lip service which they are expert at .. and each day someone or the other comes with a new assurance on launch date of vaccine to their voter constituency..

Sputnik-V is the best real step in this direction from Russia, credibility of which has been questioned by critics citing lack of transparency. Russian Govt has announced their plan for next level vaccine trial in coming days.

Moderna+NIH, BioNTech+Pfizer+Fosun Pharma, CanSinoBio, Johnson & Johnson, Astra Zeneca+ University of Oxford, NovaVax are few famous firms racing against the time to crack the code!

Two Indian Firms are also in very promising stage to break the deadlock and give respite to the humanity. These companies are -Zydus Cadila and Bharat Biotech

Experts believe that a long lasting zero fallacy vaccine is still 12-18 months away, till then best mantra to observe is-

Wear a face cover-Wash your hands-Keep a safe distance

Keep in Mind- सावधानी हटी दुर्घटना घटी!!
